Free Open-Source Curriculum Materials By and For Teachers!

New Visions PL Institute -Full Day (Breakfast and Lunch included)

Offered on Friday, November 5th, this day-long professional learning course will be facilitated by New Visions for Public Schools.  Join the New Visions science team for a one-day professional learning institute to learn about our phenomena-driven instructional materials for High School Biology and Earth & Space Science. Take a deep dive into these student-centered resources designed to meet the three-dimensional learning goals of the NYSSLS by engaging with us in immersive experiences from our curriculum, including group learning routines to support equitable sense-making.

NGSS and NYSSLS

"New Visions for Public Schools has designed and curated instructional materials that make up full-course curricula for Living Environment and Earth Science. ... Our curriculum work started in 2012 as an effort to ensure teachers have access to high-quality, curated materials. We now do much more, ensuring coherence in our materials, and usefulness across a range of settings.

With the adoption of new science learning standards in New York State -- the New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS), an adaptation of NGSS -- we are re-designing much of our curricular offerings. We have a cadre of teachers, teacher leaders, and school supervisors who have been collaborating with us for the past 2 years to figure out the pace and focus of this re-design process."

About New Visions (LINK)

For more than 30 years, New Visions has been at the heart of groundbreaking, real improvement in New York City public schools. We have opened more than 130 new schools, launched a nationally-recognized teacher residency program, and developed student planning tools and high school curriculum in use across New York city. Our impact shows in improving outcomes for students: the high school graduation rate, less than 50 percent citywide when we were founded, now exceeds 85 percent in our partner networks. Today, we support more than 1050 schools serving 600,000 students, helping them tackle their toughest challenges and realizing a shared vision of a high-quality public education for all New Yorkers.

STANYS Conference COVID-19 Policy

In an effort to keep all of our members and guests safe, STANYS will require ALL Annual Conference participants to either show proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 vaccination (CDC COVID-19 Vaccine Record Card or NYS Excelsior Pass) OR proof of a negative COVID-19 test.

  • Individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 when more than two weeks have passed since they received the second dose in a two-dose series (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), or more than two weeks have passed since they received a single-dose vaccine (Johnson & Johnson/Janssen).

  • Approved COVID-19 tests include a nucleic acid amplification test (e.g., PCR test) or a viral antigen test that is approved by the local health authority. Test results must be within 72 hours of your arrival at the Annual Conference.

  • For the safety of all attendees and given the current uptick in Delta variant cases the STANYS organization asks that individuals wear masks.

  • In addition, we will be following all local, NYSDOH, and CDC COVID-19 guidelines as they continue to evolve.
