"SPRING SESSION" of STANYS Professional Learning!

Presenter: Erin Endreson  [Sponsored by Twig Science]

There are many groups of historically underrepresented students not represented in STEM careers. This presentation examines some systemic causes of this underrepresentation and addresses what elementary educators, with the help of Twig Science, can do to increase the representation of females, people of color, and disabled students. Primarily focusing on the lack of role of models, encouragement in the early grades, and social stereotypes of how females and people of color see themselves as related to STEM. The presentation also looks at some hard data and historical context that will help reverse this trend for the future of our 21st-century economy.
