A 127th Annual Conference Post-Conference Event (Members do not have to register for the conference to attend.)
WHEN: Post Conference Monday, Nov. 7th from 1 to 4 p.m.
WHERE: Onondaga Visitor's Center, 280 Restoration Way, Syracuse, NY 13207
WHO: Science Educators (Conference attendance not required)
"Join scientific experts on the shores of Onondaga Lake to learn how this notorious and sacred body of water — once called the most polluted lake in the country — has been affected by a $1 billion cleanup after a century of public and private industrial dumping.
Participants will learn about the history of Onondaga Lake, Honeywell’s clean-up efforts, and current water quality. The first speaker, Honeywell Director Craig Milburn, will discuss the company’s remediation efforts and the STEM involved in the process. Afterward, Monica Matt from the not-for-profit Upstate Freshwater Institute will share data and information about water quality, macroinvertebrates, invasive species and more. Participants will also do some lakeside field work, weather permitting."
