Excellence  in K-6 Science Teaching

As a STANYS Award the Nomination Form should be submitted and approved before an Application is submitted. 

 

This Award honors Anton Banko (1927-1986), an engineer who developed the first automated instruments and procedures used for intraoccular microsurgery. In 1968, he founded Surgical Design Corporation (www.surgicaldesign.com) a company dedicated to innovation in the design of ophthalmic instruments. The technologies and procedures he pioneered are still used by surgeons today.


Anton Banko Award:
The Anton Banko Award recognizes an educator who teaches grades K-6 who is an outstanding teacher of science. The award covers expenses (up to $1500) to attend the STANYS annual conference and provides a $1500 stipend to be used at the teacher's discretion. The award will be presented at the STANYS conference in November.

 
Eligibility requirements:

  1. Member of STANYS (membership forms are available at www.stanys.org).
  2. Currently teach Kindergarten through 6th grade.
  3. Demonstrated ability to engage young children in the study of basic science.
